Equi Horse +SE Mineral Mix
by Balanced Equine - Carol Layton
Rated 5/5 based on 31 reviews.Previously known as Hoof Rescue + Se
Carol Layton's Equi Horse+Se is a highly bio-available mineral mix with the minerals that most horses are deficient in.
'Equi Horse +Se' mix was developed after a few farriers/trimmers requested it on behalf of horse owners who don't want to go the whole effort of testing their pasture and/or hay.
- Equi Horse +Se will not only help with hoof growth and quality, but you will also see a difference in coat, mane and tail, immune system, ability to handle a high workload and general wellbeing.
- It contains significant amounts of copper, zinc and magnesium plus selenium, iodine, calcium and phosphorus.
- 3kg will last 5.7 months on the standard dose for the average horse.
- 5kg will last 9.5 months. (23 cents a day).
- There is NO added iron and manganese which are harmful in excess and compete with the uptake of zinc and copper.
- Rather than pass on high fancy packaging costs, the price is kept low by using a strong and durable, high-quality plastic bag.
- Vitamin E is not included because when added to feeds or multi-ingredient supplements it is oxidised very quickly so should be added separately.
- Suitable for growing, breeding and working horses, especially those living in selenium-depleted areas (see map in images).
-
Selenium is an important antioxidant for protecting cell structures and cell membranes from the effects of oxygen free radicals produced during energy generation, and therefore most important for tissues with high aerobic metabolism activity like the brain/nervous system, heart, skeletal muscles and rapidly growing tissues.
Acidic soils inhibit selenium uptake by plants. Alkaline soils are more likely to have adequate selenium levels though horses in work may need supplementation.
A soil test will show pH, the lower the pH number the higher the acidity, 7 is neutral and the higher the number the more alkaline the soil. - Read about the importance of selenium here.
- Safe for laminitic prone or insulin resistant (IR)/elevated insulin horses.
Equi Horse +Se can be fed with PostBiotic Gut Support and Mycosorb A+.

Wouldn't be without!
By: Tara on 10 February 2019I'd spent years searching for a targeted mineral supplement in NZ but they just aren't available! This mineral mix has improved my horses overall health immensely and saved me hundreds of dollars and stress!

Great product!
By: Jasmine on 6 February 2019I’ve just bought this product for a second time after noticing how much more firm and less cracked my mares hooves are. She is prone to seedy toe during times when the ground is constantly moist and I think this has really improved that situation for her. Also if I had have rugged her she would’ve gone a beautiful dark and rich tone (buckskin) after winter which I think was encouraged through the use of Equi-horse.

Hoof rescue + SE Mineral mix
By: Ineke Keough on 11 August 2018I've been using this product for over a year now and wouldn't want to be without it. My horses hooves have been in amazing condition since feeding this mineral and the growth is good! I live in a very wet area which creates a struggle to keep hoof health up to scratch. This mineral definitely helps strengthen the outer wall... My horses coats also look amazing!

Mineral Supplement
By: Kylie on 5 May 2018A brilliant product. A thoughtful combination of the minerals that are low in my area without having to do a pasture test. Well priced and economical to feed.

Hoof rescue with sel
By: Kim Vucetic on 21 December 2017Horses took over 2 weeks to get use to it, even only sprinkling in feed. I found my riding horse was not himself and too dangerous to ride at one stage and this is so not like him, I introduced some mag o back into their diet as I stopped using it thinking there would be enough into the mix. This has helped with behaviour. As i've been using another weathershield mix for years they have never been without mins and vit's and so I have not seen much change in anything(which is good) the only thing I find a bit of a pain is that I have to hard feed every day now to feed this rather then leave out for them to self serve when needed. I did put some other minerals in bucket and they are eating that, so i'm not sure if they are getting enough of what they need often enough. I'm only feeding them maxisoy, hay, tbls salt, tbls mag o and tbls mineral mix. They are out on 3 to 4 acres on not much grass and not improved pasture.

I am loving it!
By: Shirleen Coleman on 18 December 2017I have started using your product Hoof Rescue +SE and found all four of my ponies are showing good signs of change to not only their feet but also their coat and manes. One of my ponies loses the lower part of his mane and has been on 'hair in a bucket' for over a year with good progress until 2 months ago when he starting to lose it again so I did some research and found your product and now I am loving it! All their manes are glowing and their feet are looking great with good growth and condition, so thank you, Carol, for such a good product I am hoping to be a return customer :)

EXCELLENT RESULTS FOR MY TROUBLESOME TB MARE
By: SHARON HEINJUS on 15 January 2017I have tried many hoof mineral mixes for my TB mare over the last five plus years however have never been truly happy with how she responded until I started her on the Hoof Rescue +SE Mineral Mix. My gelding is also on it now and my farrier recently commented on how impressed she was with how quickly he recovered from a recent bout of laminitis. So I am truly very very impressed and very satisified!

Hoof Rescue SE-Mineral Mix
By: Carolyn on 5 January 2017This is an amazing mineral mix. My trimmer recommended it during winter - since putting my two horses on it their hooves have improved, their coats are glossy and their manes and tails are luxurious. I can see such an improvement in such a short time. Can't recommend this product highly enough. You certainly won't be disappointed putting your horses onto this.

Seems to be working
By: PB on 6 September 2016I am on my second pack of this product, I am feeding it to 3 horses, one of which has skin issues. Didn't notice any changes for the first pack but am half way into the second pack and am starting to notice an improvement in all coats (darkening, gloss). The mare with the skin issues has not had a flare up for about a month now. Hooves also seem to be improving in condition. Will continue with this product as I believe it will continue to benefit my horses.

Looking Good

Horses don't like it
15 November 2015The recommended dose for this product, was a tablespoon per day per horse. I dropped it back to one teaspoon, and they still don't eat it. I then added molasses to their feed, and they would eat a bit but still leave some of the feed. My horses have access to lots of great pasture, so trying to feed this in a hard feed was just too difficult. I've now swapped to a loose lick mineral which they happily consume. Message from Store Owner: We're happy to give advice about these sorts of issues so please contact us. Here's an article that might help: http://naturalhorseworld.com/newsite/horses-dont-like-minerals/

Change of supplement
By: Jennifer on 23 July 2015I am unable to detect any difference after having one horse on this product for over a month, and the other horse just changing over now (using up the old product first). I have supplemented their feed with a high quality mineral product for several years now so this is just a change of brand. I will be interested to see how the season change out of winter goes for them though. Store owners reply: If a mineral mix product doesn't help (poor coat appearance, compromised immune system, poor hoof quality), then either: 1. The iron level (or manganese) is quite high in the intake. Since iron is known to interfere with the uptake of zinc and copper, the standard dose may not be high enough. Instead of 1 metric tablespoon, the dosage can be 1.5 to 2 tablespoons. It's safe to go higher than this. For small ponies, especially under 200 kg, the 1 metric tablespoon will be fine. OR 2. The copper to zinc ratio for the rest of the intake is not close to the ideal ratio of 1:3. Best way to correct a copper to zinc imbalance is for the horse owner to have the pasture or hay tested (whichever is appropriate) to see what the copper to zinc ratio is and that will show what amounts of copper and zinc are needed to optimise it (and the other nutrients like protein, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium). Sometimes pasture and hay test results can have a copper to zinc ratio of 1:11, though fortunately, it isn't common. A mineral mix product with a 1:3 ratio of copper to zinc cannot correct a very imbalanced intake.

Supplement sagas
2 July 2015I really can't say if this product has made a difference to my horses. They are in great condition and always have been. I have problems with seedy toe and this has improved by using Bug Buster. I add mineral supplements as a preventative measure and haven't noticed anything different before or after Horse Rescue. I choose to use this because it is more specific to our acidic soils than off the shelf products. Reply from Equine Nutritionist: It's always lovely to receive positive feedback from a horse owner but sometimes an off the shelf mineral mix product can't possibly deliver for all situations. If a mineral mix product doesn't help (poor coat appearance, compromised immune system, poor hoof quality), then either: 1. OR 2. Best treatment for seedy toe is a multifaceted approach, both nutrition and quality hoof care have to work together. You can beat seedy toe with excellent nutrition for the immune system combined with quality hoof care, including sufficiently frequent trimming. Once seedy toe gets established it is essential to treat the site of microbial and fungal activity.
